The elongated vertical composition emphasizes the figures’ presence, creating a strong architectural and sculptural effect. Néhémy combines structured drawing with expressive color blocking, using deep browns, ochres, blues, and warm accents to define form and movement. Patterned garments and head coverings introduce rhythm and cultural identity, while simplified facial features convey quiet interaction and daily life. This painting reflects a modern interpretation of Haitian market scenes, where traditional subject matter is elevated through abstraction and compositional clarity. The vertical format enhances its visual impact, making it particularly suited for collectors seeking bold and refined Haitian figurative art. This work comes from a private collection in Connecticut and will be shipped from its current location. Provenance includes the Connecticut private collection.

Néhémy Jean, known as Nehemy, was born in 1931 and died in 2007.
