Description

This original primitive painting was signed by the late famous Haitian master Gervais Emmanuel Ducasse born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in December 1903 and died in 1988. It is signed G.E. Ducasse in the lower right and inscribed along the lowered edge: " En Avant, En Avant, En Novembre 1803, Bataille de la Vertiere, General Francois Capois Conduisant Les Soldats De La Demi Brigade". It is an oil on board, dated 1977, in good condition. It is sold unframed for $750 and framed for $850. Please see the additional images and video. 

About this artist

Gervais Emmanuel Ducasse was among the most genuine Haitian primitive painters. He was a charming and submissive painter who seemed to have no conception of the environment worl: of life; he took snapshots, notwithstanding good or evil. Such paintings by Ducasse are jealousy guarded by collectors all over the world. 

Ducasse's name is mentioned in all significant Haitian art books. His artworks are exhibited at many museums worldwide, among which Nader's Art Museum, Museum" College St Pierre" in Haiti, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art in NY.
