About this artist

Wilmino Domond was born in Jacmel in 1925. He passed away on April 16, 2006, making his work very rare, especially his early pieces. He belongs to the second generation of painters of Haiti. His cousin, the late old master of Haitian artist Castera Bazile inspired him to join the art world.

Stebich says of his work: '"Brightness of color, with a preference for reds and oranges, and a love of pattern and design characterize Domond's work. The movements are stylized and distorted whenever he depicts motion, and the artist uses every opportunity to turn the form into a pattern with little elaboration of space. Although they are mainly flat, his paintings nevertheless transmit a rhythm and vibrancy expressing this artist's joy of life."

Wilmino Domond's work belongs to the permanent collections of the Figge Museum of Art in Iowa and the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut.
