About this artist

Sisson Blanchard was born in Trouin, Haiti in 1926 and died in 1988. In 1949, once a yard boy at the Centre d'Art, he was encouraged to paint the American sculptor, Jason Seley. His works are characterized by a naive boldness, using bright primary colors to depicts birds and still life. His work is included in the collections of both the Davenport Museum of Art and the Waterloo Museum of Art, in Iowa. Sisson is considered an older Haitian artist before the '70s.
