Jeanne Elie Joseph Rigaud was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1926. Although she grew up in a family of artists, her devotion to painting was revealed late in life. After experiencing with several themes and mediums, she finally became known for her unique style of painting young girls and children as symbols of the joy, the love, the freedom, and  the hope for the future generations.  With their bare feet, her subjects are simply dressed with vivid colors and carry huge bouquet of tropical flowers.
