Description

In Waves of Spirits (2024), Haitian master Levoy Exil captures the rhythmic flow of life and energy through a graceful arrangement of abstract, interwoven forms. Painted in luminous shades of turquoise, violet, and indigo, the composition evokes a sense of spiritual harmony and movement—like ocean currents filled with ethereal presences. Each softly contoured shape holds a single eye, a recurring symbol in Exil’s work representing divine awareness, ancestral wisdom, and universal connection. A founding member of the Saint-Soleil movement, Levoy Exil is celebrated for his meditative exploration of Haiti’s spiritual and cosmic dimensions. His paintings merge music, mysticism, and motion into visual poetry, affirming the unity between the human soul and the natural world.

About this artist

Famous Saint Soleil Artist, Levoy Exil was born in 1944 in Soisson-la-Montagne. He is one of the main contributors to the Saint Soleil art movement. His paintings are mystical and abstract and often depict Haitian Voodoo Loas, suns and stars, birds, and "marassas"/twins. Levoy style is primitive/naive, and dreamlike. He uses the Pointillism technique of applying small, distinct dots in a pattern to reveal an image drawn from African, Haitian, and Vodou influences. He has exhibited internationally and is well appreciated by art collectors internationally, mainly in Europe.
