Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a fee to submit my artwork for consignment?
No. There is no charge to submit your artwork for review. Simply complete our online Consignment Submission Form and upload clear photographs along with any available information about the artwork. If your artwork is accepted, we will send you our consignment agreement outlining the terms and commission structure.
What types of Haitian artwork do you accept?
We primarily accept original Haitian paintings, drawings, and sculptures by established Haitian artists. Each submission is reviewed individually for authenticity, condition, artistic quality, market demand, and suitability for our gallery.
Do you accept entire collections?
Yes. We regularly work with private collectors, estates, families, attorneys, museums, and institutions seeking to sell multiple artworks or complete collections.
I inherited Haitian artwork. Can you help me sell it?
Absolutely. We frequently assist families who inherit Haitian art. We can review the artwork, help identify artists when possible, recommend pricing, and determine whether the works are appropriate for consignment.
Do I need an appraisal before consigning my artwork?
Not necessarily. We evaluate artwork independently for consignment purposes. However, if you require a formal USPAP-compliant appraisal for insurance, estate planning, charitable donation, equitable distribution, or another intended use, we also provide professional appraisal services.
Do you offer appraisals for people considering selling?
Yes. If you're considering selling your Haitian artwork but aren't yet ready to consign it, we offer Opinion of Sale Price appraisals. This service provides our professional opinion of an appropriate asking price based on current market conditions, comparable sales, collector demand, and our decades of experience in Haitian art. Unlike a USPAP-compliant appraisal prepared for insurance, estate planning, charitable donations, or other intended uses, an Opinion of Sale Price appraisal helps owners better understand their artwork's current selling potential before deciding whether to consign or sell privately. How do you determine the asking price?
Our pricing recommendations are based on current market conditions and professional analysis, including the artist, size, medium, subject matter, condition, provenance, rarity, recent auction records, comparable gallery sales, and collector demand.
Can I suggest my own asking price?
Yes. We welcome your input and are happy to discuss pricing with you. Our recommendations are based on current market research and our experience in the Haitian art market.
What is your consignment commission?
Our standard commission is 40%, with 60% of the selling price paid to the consignor.
Why do galleries charge commissions?
Professional galleries invest significant time and resources into researching, pricing, marketing, and selling artwork. Our commission supports worldwide marketing, SEO, collector outreach, buyer communication, negotiations, and transaction management.
How long does it take to sell Haitian art?
Every artwork is unique. The artist, subject matter, price, condition, and current market demand all influence the selling timeline.
Do I keep my artwork until it sells?
Yes. The artwork remains in your possession until a buyer is found, reducing unnecessary shipping and handling.
Who is responsible for shipping?
After the sale, the consignor ships the artwork directly to the buyer via fully insured, tracked shipping. We provide guidance throughout the process.
When do I receive payment?
Payment is issued after the buyer confirms safe receipt of the artwork, in accordance with the consignment agreement.
Can I consign artwork if I live outside the United States?
Yes. We work with consignors throughout the United States and internationally.
What if I don't know the artist?
Please submit the artwork anyway. We may be able to identify the artist based on the style, signature, or other characteristics.
Do you guarantee that my artwork will sell?
No reputable gallery can guarantee a sale. We maximize exposure through professional marketing, but sales depend on demand, pricing, and collector interest.
What happens if my artwork doesn't sell?
We may recommend price adjustments based on market activity. If the consignment period ends without a sale, the agreement renews automatically unless otherwise specified in writing.
Can I sell my artwork elsewhere while it is on consignment?
Our consignment agreements are exclusive for the duration of the consignment period to ensure consistent pricing and marketing.
Why should I choose a specialized Haitian art gallery instead of a general gallery?
A gallery specializing exclusively in Haitian art understands the artists, market history, provenance, collector demand, and pricing trends specific to Haitian art, helping connect your artwork with qualified collectors.
