Description

In Figures in a Verdant Landscape, Raymond Dorléans captures the serenity of rural Haiti through a luminous symphony of greens and blues. A woman and child walk along a shaded path toward a clearing where other figures gather amid tall, slender trees. The scene unfolds in layers of soft foliage, each brushstroke revealing the artist’s sensitivity to light, texture, and the rhythms of nature. Painted in the 1980s, this composition exemplifies Dorléans’s poetic realism—his ability to transform everyday life into a meditation on harmony and atmosphere. The tranquil palette and gentle perspective evoke both intimacy and vastness, hallmarks of his mature style. The painting is in good condition overall, with minor scratches, and is sold unframed. It will be shipped directly from the Dominican Republic, and we will issue a Certificate of Authenticity upon purchase.

About this artist

Well-known Haitian painter Raymond Dorleans was born in Haiti in 1947 and died in Martinique in 2000. His first art exhibit was in 1973, and dark blue-green landscapes with bright figures characterize his paintings. His art is in many private collections worldwide, cited in many Haitian art books, sold at Sotheby's, and shown at Musee des Beaux-Arts d'Orleans in France. "A landscape artist, Dorleans is a master of airy perspectives," says Gerald Alexis in his book Peintres Haitiens
