Animal Market exemplifies Laurent Casimir’s mastery of rhythm, color, and movement in Haitian market scenes. In this vibrant tableau, a sea of figures fills the marketplace, their bodies rendered in Casimir’s signature stylized forms and vivid hues of red, yellow, green, and indigo. The orderly yet dynamic crowd surrounds a corral of livestock, reflecting both the bustle and harmony of rural Haitian life. Casimir Laurent est né en 1928 et décédé en 1990 à Port-au-Prince, en Haïti. Son travail a été exposé en Haïti, aux États-Unis, en Angleterre et au Brésil. Les collectionneurs ont apprécié ses scènes de foule stylisées, ses peintures en plein air représentant l'activité du marché et ses loisirs, comme les combats de coqs. Son travail appartient à la collection permanente d'art haïtien du Figge Art Museum de Davenport, IA et du Milwaukee Art Museum de Milwaukee, WI. Son nom est mentionné dans les grands livres d'art haïtiens : « Laurent rythme les marchés et les carnavals densément peuplés en utilisant le jeu des couleurs » . ( Peintres Haïtiens , Gérald Alexis, Editions Cercle d'Art, 2000)
