Description
Description
This elegant still life by Dominican artist Juan Plutarco Andujar presents a carefully composed studio scene featuring a violin, sheet music, ceramic vessels, and draped fabric, arranged with quiet balance and painterly restraint. Titled Obra de Estudio, the work reflects Andujar’s academic sensibility and his ability to infuse everyday objects with atmosphere, harmony, and timeless appeal.
The violin emerges as the central motif, symbolizing music, discipline, and artistic devotion, while warm earth tones and soft shadows create a contemplative mood. Subtle highlights and controlled brushwork give the composition depth and texture, drawing the viewer into the intimacy of the artist’s studio. The interplay of form, light, and surface demonstrates Andujar’s mastery of classical still-life traditions adapted to a Caribbean context.
Executed in acrylic on canvas and offered unframed, this sizable work makes a sophisticated statement suitable for collectors of Latin American art, music-themed interiors, or refined modern spaces. The painting is signed by the artist and remains in good condition, with light surface characteristics consistent with age and medium. A Certificate of Authenticity will be issued by Myriam Nader Art Gallery upon purchase, ensuring confidence and long-term value.

About this artist
Juan Plutarco Andujar was a renowned modern painter born in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic, in 1931. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts for four years before moving to Europe and the United States to further his education. After graduating from the San Fernando Academy in Madrid, Spain, he excelled in drawing and watercolor techniques and also explored mural art.
Andujar's work was characterized by his use of green, blue-gray, and red tones. He was an exceptional portraitist, but it was his seascapes that earned him international acclaim. He participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, with his works held in collections and museums around the world.
One notable exhibition was ¡MERENGUE! at El Museo Del Barrio in East Harlem, New York, where his piece “This Skin I'm In” received mention in The New York Times in 2007. Juan Plutarco Andujar is undeniably one of the most celebrated Dominican painters of all time, passing away in 1995.
Today, art enthusiasts can acquire items from "Art Café," a collection that includes coffee cups, ashtrays, plates, and decorative round platters. These pieces feature Andujar's art, which is inspired by serene seascapes and the representation of the hardworking Dominican people, showcasing market vendors and fishers.
