Description

This painting depicts the announcement of the Incarnation by the angel Gabriel to Mary. It's an original 19"x27" oil on carton. This stunning piece belongs to the collection of Georges S. Nader's family, and it is catalogued in the book "Peintres Haitiens" #85 and belongs now to the foundation of Marie & Georges S. Nader. It was purchased by Mr. Nader (my father) in 1992 at one of the most prestigious auction sale houses, either Sotheby's or Christies in 1992 when it was about to inaugurated his private museum in Croix Desprez, Haiti.

About this artist

Castera Bazile started to work at the Centre d'art in 1944, helping Dewitt Peter's students with the necessary elements for still life subjects. He soon developed an interest in flowers and composition, and one day, he started to paint himself. He painted three of the murals in the Episcopal Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in 1951. By 1955, he took successfully part in several exhibits at the Art Center and overseas- the U.S and Europe. He won the grand prize of the Caribbean International Competition sponsored by Alcoa Corporation and the $1,000 grand prize in a Holiday Magazine contest. His figures are often outlined. In 1966, Bazile died prematurely at the peak of his career. 

His art is referred in all major books on Haitian art and mentioned by many art critics internationally.
