Description
Description
Jean-Bernard Etienne’s Little Girl with Red Bow is a captivating Haitian portrait rendered in acrylic on canvas, featuring a young girl with expressive eyes, a bright red ribbon, and a delicate white flower tucked in her hair. Etienne’s confident color work and fine detailing bring warmth and personality to the sitter, while the vibrant green-and-blue background enhances the painting’s joyful, decorative presence. The floral blue dress and subtle jewelry add charm and cultural character, making this intimate 10 x 8 inch work an ideal entry point for new collectors and a standout accent piece for any curated wall. This artwork belongs to the private collection of Georges S. Nader in New York and will be shipped directly from the collection. It is offered for sale as-is. A Certificate of Authenticity will be issued by Myriam Nader Haitian Art Gallery upon purchase.
About this artist
About this artist
Jean-Bernard Etienne (1952–May 26, 2019) was a self-taught Haitian artist born in Gonaïves, Haiti, who developed a passion for painting at an early age. Working in an expressive style, Etienne is best known for dramatic portraits of young women and children—faces rendered with a distinctive sense of innocence, serenity, and quiet emotional intensity. His paintings often balance expressive brushwork with an idealized tenderness, particularly in depictions of childhood. As Gérald Alexis observed in Peintres Haïtiens, Etienne “turns to an idealized style to describe the innocence of childhood,” a theme that remains central to his artistic legacy. Today, his work is appreciated for its emotional clarity, human warmth, and enduring contribution to modern Haitian portraiture
