Jorelus Joseph received a Gold Medal at the 3rd Biennial of Caribbean & Central American Artists at the Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic in 1996, an important recognition of his artistic achievement. Though not formally initiated, he was a devoted attendee of Vodou ceremonies and often cited them as a continual source of inspiration for his paintings. From 1991 to 2007, his work was exhibited widely across Haiti, including at Le Centre d’Art and the Musée d’Art Haïtien du Collège St-Pierre, and internationally in Belgium, France, the Dominican Republic, and the United States, including exhibitions at the Musée d’Art Naïf (Lasne), the Biennial of Santo Domingo, and museum presentations in Florida and Saint Croix.
