Yves Michaud (Haitian, 1950-2025)

Yves Michaud (1950–2025) was a Haitian painter born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, known for his intimate depictions of everyday Haitian life. He began painting in 1969 under the guidance of Haitian master Néhémy Jean, developing a strong foundation in figurative realism. In the mid-1970s he formed a close friendship with Haitian Impressionist Carlo Jean-Jacques, which influenced his sensitivity to atmosphere and human gesture. Michaud’s paintings are recognized for their expressive faces, subtle body language, and emotional depth. Around 2000 he began working under the name Georges Desarmes, making earlier works signed Yves Michaud increasingly sought after by collectors of Haitian art. Explore available works below.
