Description
Description
Crowded Market captures the vibrancy and collective rhythm of Haitian market life through Laurent Casimir’s iconic style of dense, colorful crowds. The composition overflows with energy—figures in red, orange, and green gather beneath a luminous Caribbean sky, carrying baskets and goods as they weave among thatched huts. Each figure is uniquely rendered, radiating movement, unity, and the pulse of Haitian daily life. Painted in the 1970s, before Casimir began mass-producing market scenes with assistants, this work reflects the artist’s early mastery, individuality, and sensitivity to form and balance. His rhythmic arrangement of figures and harmonious palette of vermilion and ochre elevate an everyday scene into a poetic meditation on community and resilience. A pioneer of Haitian modernism, Laurent Casimir remains celebrated for transforming the market scene into a hallmark of Haitian visual identity. His work continues to be highly sought after by collectors and institutions worldwide. This painting is in good condition and belongs to a private collector in the Dominican Republic, from whom it will be shipped. Our gallery will issue a certificate of authenticity upon purchase.
