Description

Untwined Spirits is an original 1992 painting by Haitian artist Levoy Exil, signed “Levoy Exil” and dated 1992 in the lower right corner, just below the outstretched hand of the larger figure. Two pale, wide-eyed figures rise from a single mass of black cross-hatched drapery, their arms curling around heads and shoulders in a gesture both protective and restless. Fine gold outlines trace each contour, while fish-scale panels in white and black give the robes a rhythmic, woven surface. Behind them, a deep blue field alive with tiny dots and short strokes of red, teal, violet and white reads like a night sky of scattered constellations. The painting comes from a private collector in California and is sold framed, ready to hang. It is in good condition, consistent with its age. We will provide a Certificate of Authenticity. This is a huge beautiful acrylic on canvas depicting two foundling spirits in black and white in a pointillistic manner in a dark blue background.

About this artist

Famous Saint Soleil Artist, Levoy Exil was born in 1944 in Soisson-la-Montagne. He is one of the main contributors to the Saint Soleil art movement. His paintings are mystical and abstract and often depict Haitian Voodoo Loas, suns and stars, birds, and "marassas"/twins. Levoy style is primitive/naive, and dreamlike. He uses the Pointillism technique of applying small, distinct dots in a pattern to reveal an image drawn from African, Haitian, and Vodou influences. He has exhibited internationally and is well appreciated by art collectors internationally, mainly in Europe.
