Ernst Jean-Louis was born on October 12, 1949, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He is the brother of Haitian painter William Jean-Louis and developed his artistic career within Haiti’s vibrant postwar art scene. He attended primary school at Darius Denis and later studied at Lycée Toussaint Louverture. Ernst Jean-Louis began painting under the guidance of Antoine Daniel and Senatus, developing a style rooted in Haitian artistic traditions. In 1971, he participated in an exhibition at the Centre d’Art, Haiti’s leading artistic institution, marking an important step in his professional career.
