Collection: Gérard Paul (Haitian, b.1943)

Gérard Paul was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on October 7, 1943. Orphaned at a young age, he learned several trades, including cabinetmaking, masonry, and house painting, before turning to art. In 1965, he created his first paintings using leftover materials. His talent was quickly recognized by Mrs. Malsy Minsk, the wife of the German Ambassador, who encouraged him by providing supplies and purchasing his early works. By 1972, Paul gained recognition through the Monnin Gallery in Port-au-Prince and exhibited the same year at the Séraphine Gallery in Paris. He is known for his Vodou-inspired paintings that reflect spiritual themes with a direct, expressive approach. Later in life, Paul moved to the United States and stepped away from painting, making his works increasingly scarce on the market. Today, Gérard Paul’s paintings are sought after by collectors for their rarity, spiritual subject matter, and compelling life story. Explore his available works below.
