Description
Description
"Blue Rain in the Orchard" is an original Haitian oil painting by David Saintus, painted in the striking blue monochrome style that marks a new direction for this Haitian artist. Orchard trees heavy with fruit and blossom rise from a field of wild flowers, while village figures move through the scene, gathering, resting, and walking beneath soft rain falling over distant hills, with palm trees and cypress punctuating the horizon and a woven basket at the center of the harvest activity.
Long recognized for his poetic Haitian landscapes rooted in the naive art tradition, Saintus trades his familiar warm palette here for a cooler, more atmospheric vision, giving the countryside a dreamlike, almost nocturnal quality while keeping his signature detail and rhythm intact. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower portion of the composition.
This piece comes from a private collector's collection in Indiana. It will ship unframed and is in good condition, consistent with its age. A Certificate of Authenticity will be issued by Myriam Nader Haitian Art Gallery upon purchase.
About this artist
About this artist
Haitian artist David Saintus was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on April 5, 1960, and he was educated at the Ecole Nationale des Casernes and Lycée Antenor Firmin. Influenced and encouraged to develop his skills by an artist recognized in the school of Haitian art, Saintus realized a very personal style by inventing his techniques and sketching from nature and imagination to create. A unique world of fantasy. He prefers to paint landscapes and seascapes with a mystical quality achieved by using perspective and subtle color palettes to form two-dimensional surfaces. Saintus paints with a visionary style in the tradition of Haitian naif and primitive art. Saintus has exhibited at several renowned art galleries and group shows in Paris, Miami, the Dominican Republic, Miami, and Haiti; his paintings are permanent in corporate and private collections.
