Description
"Stations of Faith" is a rare 1967 oil on board by Louines Mentor, an early example of the artist's signature style, in which the painted composition is divided into panels that mimic the leaded lines and framing of a cathedral window, each holding its own narrative scene. Village life, religious imagery, and processions with figures and animals unfold across the piece in Mentor's characteristic palette of deep blues, reds, and golds. Dated and signed by the artist in the lower right, this work reflects the period shortly after Mentor began painting in 1964, when he was developing the tapestry and stained-glass-inspired style that would come to define his career. The painting comes from a private collection in Washington State, where it will ship from. Condition is good, consistent with its age. A certificate of authenticity will be issued.

Beginning his artistic journey in 1964, Mentor paints colorful street scenes and rural imagery that evoke the spirit of Haiti’s people and culture. His work combines narrative warmth with a style reminiscent of medieval tapestries and stained glass. Mentor’s paintings have been featured in America's magazine and collected by Jonathan Demme and Bryant University.
