Collection: Henri-Robert Bresil (Haitian, 1952-1999)
Henri-Robert Brésil (1952–1999) was a celebrated Haitian painter born in Gonaïves, Haiti, best known for his vibrant countryside landscapes and iconic flamingo scenes. Fascinated by nature from an early age, Brésil developed a distinctive style defined by lush vegetation, layered rural compositions, and masterful green tonalities that give density and atmosphere to his paintings. He began painting professionally in 1973 and was awarded the prestigious Ispan-UNESCO Prize in 1981. His work was exhibited throughout Haiti and internationally in the United States, Puerto Rico, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Japan. Brésil received recognition in major publications including The New York Times and the Miami Herald and is cited in leading books on Haitian art. Art historian Gérald Alexis praised his “sharp use of green hues” in Peintres Haïtiens. Highly collectible and frequently imitated, Henri-Robert Brésil’s paintings remain important examples of modern Haitian art. We recommend purchasing only from reputable and established sources.
