About this artist

Philippe Vieux (born 1932, Port-au-Prince, Haiti) is a distinguished Haitian painter known for his refined and introspective approach to modern Haitian art. Educated at Collège Jean Jacques Dessalines and Collège de Port-au-Prince, Vieux began his artistic journey at the Centre d’Art in Port-au-Prince, where his first watercolor exhibition attracted early acclaim. Encouraged by mentors Dewitt Peters and Francine Murat, Vieux transitioned from watercolor to oil painting, developing a style marked by elegance, balance, and quiet emotional depth.
