About this artist

At an early age, Gesner Armand joined the Centre d’Art, where Pierre Monosiet introduced him to watercolor. He spent the period from 1958 to 1960 in Mexico. In 1960 he was awarded a scholarship from the French government and lived in Paris until 1962. He returned to Haiti that year and settled in Croix-des-Bouquets. He was the director of the Museum of Haitian Art at St Pierre’s College. Gesner studied art both in Paris and Mexico. As a renowned Haitian painter, he has exhibited in Haiti, Mexico, the United States, Paris, Spain, Jamaica, Martinique, Venezuela, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, and Israel. He is known for his luminous country scenes and his pigeons, and although his still-lives reveal an undeniable Mexican Influence, his art reflects the intense love he has for his country, Haiti. "Armand's substantial work rests upon a mastery of color effects and a pure drawing." (Peintres Haitiens, Gérald Alexis). Get the Book Now!Own a piece of art by this artist? Each piece is unique.
