Description
Description
This tranquil oil-on-canvas painting by Haitian artist David Saintus, created in 1984, depicts a lush rural hillside alive with farmers cultivating the land under a soft morning sky. Saintus captures the quiet beauty and rhythm of Haitian village life through his meticulous brushwork, delicate color gradations, and finely patterned vegetation. The work’s layered perspective and gentle luminosity reveal the artist’s distinctive naïve style—one that bridges observation, imagination, and spirituality.
Born in Port-au-Prince in 1960, Saintus developed a personal visual language inspired by the Haitian landscape and the poetic traditions of the naïf movement. His compositions often celebrate harmony between people and nature, expressed through subtle geometry and balanced composition.
This piece is in good vintage condition with minor signs of age consistent with its period. It will be shipped unframed directly from a private collection in the Dominican Republic. A Certificate of Authenticity will be issued by Myriam Nader Haitian Art Gallery upon purchase.
About this artist
About this artist
Haitian artist David Saintus was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on April 5, 1960, and he was educated at the Ecole Nationale des Casernes and Lycée Antenor Firmin. Influenced and encouraged to develop his skills by an artist recognized in the school of Haitian art, Saintus realized a very personal style by inventing his techniques and sketching from nature and imagination to create. A unique world of fantasy. He prefers to paint landscapes and seascapes with a mystical quality achieved by using perspective and subtle color palettes to form two-dimensional surfaces. Saintus paints with a visionary style in the tradition of Haitian naif and primitive art. Saintus has exhibited at several renowned art galleries and group shows in Paris, Miami, the Dominican Republic, Miami, and Haiti; his paintings are permanent in corporate and private collections.
