Description

Village life unfolds in a patchwork of saturated color in this 1981 rural scene by Haitian artist Micheline Prezeau. Seated and standing figures gather among woven baskets, stacked fruit, and a stool, while a rider on a laden donkey enters from the right. Bright textiles hang overhead in reds, oranges, yellows, and blues, turning the open-air setting into a rhythmic field of color. Prezeau builds the composition with raised, textured contour lines that outline each figure and fabric, giving the surface a tactile, almost sculptural quality. Warm earth tones and pops of pink and chartreuse keep the eye moving across the scene. Signed “Prezeau” at the lower right, this work comes from the collection of Marie & Georges S. Nader, and it brings a lively, intimate glimpse of Haitian daily life to collectors of Haitian art. Condition is good, consistent with its age. A certificate of authenticity from the gallery accompanies the work.
