About this artist

Philton Latortue was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on March 6, 1944. He studied at the Lycée Pétion and later received formal art training at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Port-au-Prince before joining the Centre d’Art in 1962. This combination of academic instruction and exposure to Haiti’s leading artistic institution helped shape his distinctive visual style. Latortue is admired for his vibrant and meticulously rendered background landscapes. His scenes often feature rich color palettes and detailed compositions that highlight the natural beauty and cultural rhythms of Haiti.
