Collection: André Pierre (Haitian, 1914-2005)

André Pierre (1914–2005) was a self-taught Haitian master painter born in Port-au-Prince and widely regarded as one of the most important artists of Haitian Vodou art. Often considered the spiritual successor to Hector Hyppolite, Pierre became renowned for his powerful depictions of the lwa (Vodou spirits), placing him at the center of Haiti’s religious and naïve painting traditions. His richly symbolic compositions portray Vodou cosmology with remarkable authenticity and spiritual intensity. André Pierre’s works have been widely reproduced in major books on Haitian art and are held in important collections around the world. Art historian Gérald Alexis noted in Peintres Haïtiens that Pierre “injects rhythms into his works through lines and colors,” conveying the sacred movement and energy of Vodou spirituality. Explore available works below.
