About this artist

Late Haitian artist Bourmond Byron, born in Jacmel in 1920 and passing away in 2004, made significant contributions to the art world. He followed a friend's advice and joined the Centre d'Art to refine his skills in painting horses. Byron's work is characterized by striking greenish-blue backgrounds, with lighter subjects commanding attention at the center of his canvases. His art has been prominently exhibited in both Haiti and the United States, earning recognition for its powerful landscapes and vivid depictions of Haitian life. Byron's works have been shown worldwide and are included in the permanent collections of several museums, including the Milwaukee Museum and the Jonathan Demme art collection.
