Description

In En Allant au Marché, G. E. Ducasse captures a charming slice of Haitian rural life with bold outlines and vivid tropical color. Two women in blue dresses lead their donkeys laden with goods toward the village market, passing a bright green house framed by palm trees and blooming vegetation. The artist’s distinctive line work and flattened perspective give the scene both rhythm and narrative energy. Painted in 1975, this work exemplifies Ducasse’s documentary approach to everyday life, blending folk authenticity with a modern, illustrative sensibility. The handwritten inscription at the bottom—“Mode de transports utilisés par les petites marchandes”—underscores its ethnographic charm. The painting is in good condition overall, shows minor age-related wear consistent with its vintage, and is sold unframed. It will be shipped directly from the Dominican Republic, and we will be issued a COA upon purchase
