About this artist
Luckner Lazard was born in Port-au-Prince in 1928 and died in Jacmel in 1998. He studied painting at the Centre d'Art from 1954-1950. He founded the Brochette Gallery in 1956. He won many prizes in competitions organized by Pan American Airways, the National Tourist Office, and Alcoa Steamship Company. He exhibited in Haiti, Spain, Paris, Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Germany, the USA, and Canada. In his book " Peintres Haitiens", the author and art critic, Gerald Alexis states: " Against a peculiar and highly personal blue background, Lazard draws arabesque inspired by forms occurring in Haitian life."
