Collection: Casimir Laurent (Haitian, 1928-1990)

Casimir’s work has been exhibited in Haiti, the United States, England, and Brazil. Collectors value his stylized crowd scenes and vibrant open-air compositions depicting marketplace activity, community gatherings, and leisure pursuits such as cockfighting. His paintings are part of the permanent Haitian art collections of the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa, and the Milwaukee Art Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.Casimir’s name is cited in major Haitian art publications. As Gérald Alexis writes in Peintres Haïtiens (Éditions Cercle d’Art, 2000): “Laurent injects rhythm into densely populated marketplaces and carnivals by using the interplay of colors.” His distinctive palette and dynamic compositions became so influential that Casimir’s works have been widely imitated. For this reason, we strongly recommend verifying the source and authenticity before purchasing a painting attributed to him elsewhere. Scroll Down To Make Your Selection (s)!
