Description

Painted in 1997, this atmospheric landscape by Gesner Armand draws the eye to a gathering of women sheltered beneath a makeshift canopy hung with a vibrant purple and magenta patchwork cloth. Beside it, a great tree glows with golden leaves against a deep turquoise sky. Goats and sheep graze and rest across the grassy foreground, giving the scene a calm, pastoral rhythm. Armand’s expressive, layered brushwork and rich palette of greens, golds and violets turn an everyday rural moment into something quietly luminous. Small touches of blue, green and red in the figures’ clothing and headwraps add warmth and life to the shaded center of the composition. The painting is signed and dated “Gesner Armand 97” at the lower right. Condition is good, consistent with its age. A certificate of authenticity from the gallery accompanies the painting.
