Description

A white egret opens its wings mid-landing in this lyrical 1990 work by Haitian artist Micheline Prezeau. Confident black contour lines define the bird’s rounded body, long beak, and slender legs, while loose washes of blue create a misty, atmospheric ground. Sweeping green fronds frame the upper corner, and warm browns and ochres mark the branch below, giving the composition a vivid contrast of cool and warm tones. Signed “Prezeau” and dated 1990 in the lower right, this piece comes from the collection of Marie & Georges S. Nader. Its expressive, gestural handling and tropical palette make it a fresh addition to a collection of Haitian art, and a natural fit for nature-inspired interiors. Condition is good, consistent with its age. A certificate of authenticity from the gallery accompanies the work.

About this artist

Micheline Prézeau (b. 1943) is a Haitian painter. She ran an art gallery for 14 years, reportedly in Pétion-Ville, and raised her daughter, the contemporary artist Barbara Prézeau-Stephenson, in an artistic household. Her figurative paintings depict everyday Haitian life, including seaside markets, rendered in bright colors with thick, textured outlines.
