About this artist

Jacques Gabriel was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1934 and died in 1988. He joined the Foyer des Arts Plastiques in 1954. Alex Jeanty successfully taught him in watercolors, Néhémy Jean in designing, and Dieudonné Cédor and Dorcely in oils. He has exhibited in Europe and Haiti. His art is mentioned in many Haitian art books. "Gabriel's rigor and clear colors contrast with his strong, colorful personality," says Gerald Alexis in his book Peintres Haitiens. Get the Book Now
