The Haitian artist Smith Blanchard was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on August 19, 1952—Son of the late Haitian artist Sisson Blanchard, who initiated him to painting, Smith developed his unique style of vibrant jungle scenes painted in a primitive way. His art is scarce in the art market. Michel Philippe Lerebours mentioned the artist's name in his book Haiti et Ses Peintres de 1804 à 1980, Tome II, pp.410.
