Célestin Faustin 24"x48" Huile sur masonite Signé et daté : C. Faustin 1974 en bas à gauche. État : Globalement bon Histoire de provenance : George L. Brown Jr., ancien lieutenant-gouverneur du Colorado, a hérité du tableau de la succession d'un ami vers 1985. L'amie de George avait passé beaucoup de temps en Afrique avant de mourir et était une grande collectionneuse d'art africain. En conséquence, à sa mort, sa succession a donné à George la majeure partie de sa collection, y compris le tableau de Célestin Faustin. Voodoo priest and one of the most extraordinary Haitian master painters with seemingly limitless possibilities, Celestin Faustin, was born in 1948 in Haiti and died in 1981. He studied art with Wilmino Domond and soon developed a style of his own that was haunting, poetic, hallucinatory, surreal, and erotic. Most of his paintings tell a story of profound personal anguish and a deep ambivalence about his Vodou beliefs.
