Description
A lively, charming scene of Haitian nightlife by Henri-Claude Obin. Five musicians in matching blue shirts and jeans play saxophone, guitar, and conga drum on a raised stage framed by teal curtains, while couples dance and friends gather at small tables with bottles and glasses below. Sunlit yellow floorboards, lavender-curtained windows, and crisp, flat figures give the whole room a warm, rhythmic energy.
Signed “H.C. Obin, Cap-Haitien” in a red-bordered cartouche at the lower right, the painting comes from a private collection in New York. Its everyday subject and precise, narrative style reflect the Cap-Haïtien tradition of painting daily life and community gatherings.
Condition is good, with some white spots to the surface, as shown in the images. A certificate of authenticity is included.
