This original acrylic on canvas painting by renowned Haitian artist Luckner Lazard (1928-1998) is signed and dated 1995. Depicting a lively coastal harbor filled with traditional sailing vessels, fishermen, and a picturesque village, the composition exemplifies Lazard's celebrated modernist style and his enduring fascination with Haiti's maritime heritage. One of the foremost figures of twentieth-century Haitian art, Luckner Lazard is internationally recognized for his bold use of color, expressive compositions, and innovative interpretation of Caribbean landscapes and daily life. His paintings combine modernist design with the vibrant spirit of Haiti, earning him a place in important museum and private collections throughout the Americas and Europe. Le regretté peintre et sculpteur Luckner Lazard ou Lucner Lazard est né à Port-au-Prince, en Haïti, le 7 juillet 1928 et est décédé le 15 mai 1998. Lazard a étudié cinq ans au Centre d'Art avant de recevoir un bourse en 1951 pour étudier à Paris, France. En 1956, il fonde la Galerie Brochette en Haïti et s'installe aux États-Unis. Les œuvres de Lazard ont été exposées en Europe, dans les Caraïbes, en Amérique du Nord et au Brésil. Certaines des galeries dans lesquelles il a exposé sont l'Institut français de Mexique et, en 1976, le Centre multimédia Paul Robeson à Washington, DC. « Sur un fond bleu particulier et très personnel, Lazard dessine des arabesques inspirées des formes de la vie haïtienne. » », déclare le critique d'art et auteur Gerald Alexis dans son livre Here!
