Description

A powerful Vodou-inspired composition from Haitian painter Stivenson Magloire, this original work gathers its imagery around three spirit presences. A pale, long-necked figure crowned with a cross rises at the center, flanked by a veiled figure on the right and a disembodied hand gripping a small cross on the left. A coffin floats overhead, a dark bird sweeps across the upper right, and a large black cross, signed along its arm by the artist, anchors the lower left. Together, the crosses and funerary imagery evoke the realm of the Gede, the spirits of death and ancestry in Haitian Vodou. Violet, rust, teal, and deep blue are scrubbed and scraped into a smoky, atmospheric ground, then punctuated with small white stars, orange glyphs reminiscent of veve, and drips of red. Dense, calligraphic black linework loops across the surface, giving the canvas a restless, ritual energy. It is a bold, contemporary statement piece for collectors drawn to the spiritual and symbolic side of Haitian art. Condition is good. We will provide a Certificate of Authenticity.
