Dieudonné Cédor was born in 1925 in Anse-à-Veau, Haiti, and died on September 27, 2010. He was a leading master of modern Haitian art, known for his expressive compositions and his important role in shaping the Haitian art movement. Cédor joined the Centre d’Art in 1947, where he became both a teacher and a central figure in its development. He was a founding member of the Foyer des Arts Plastiques and the Association of Haitian Artists, and he contributed significantly to the evolution of modern Haitian painting. His work is often noted for its structured compositions and painterly approach, drawing comparisons to European modernists such as Cézanne and Braque. In 1957, he received a Gold Medal at the Bicentenary Exposition in Haiti, and in 1967, he completed a mural for the Port-au-Prince International Airport. Cédor exhibited internationally, including in Guatemala, Mexico, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the United States.
