コレクション: Jacques Gabriel (Haitian, 1934-1988)
Jacques Gabriel was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1934 and died in 1988. He joined the Foyer des Arts Plastiques in 1954, where he trained under some of Haiti's most influential modern artists, including Alex Jeanty in watercolor, Néhémy Jean in drawing and design, and Dieudonné Cédor and Dorcely in oil painting. Gabriel developed a distinctive style characterized by disciplined composition, vibrant color, and technical precision. His paintings were exhibited in Haiti and Europe, earning recognition among collectors and contributing to Haiti's postwar modern art movement. His work is documented in major publications on Haitian art. Gérald Alexis wrote in Peintres Haïtiens that “Gabriel's rigor and clear colors contrast with his strong, colorful personality,” highlighting the balance of structure and expressive color that defines his paintings. Today, Jacques Gabriel's works are appreciated for their refined craftsmanship, modernist vision, and lasting contribution to Haitian art. Explore his available works below.
