Sébastien Jean (1980–2020) was a Haitian painter and sculptor born in Thomassin, Haiti, known for his experimental materials and neo-expressionist style. A self-taught artist, he began creating at a young age, working with unconventional media such as sawdust, coffee grounds, sand, and bamboo. Jean developed a distinctive visual language combining texture, abstraction, and expressive intensity. His work reflects a strong connection to craft traditions while engaging with contemporary artistic practices. He exhibited internationally, including with the Fondation Agnès b in Paris, the 54th Venice Biennale, Global Caribbean III in Miami, and PIASA in Paris. He also participated in the Haiti-Africa residency organized by the French Institute. Today, Sébastien Jean’s work is increasingly sought after by collectors for its originality and material innovation. Sebastien sadly passed away in November 2020. Explore available works below.
