Description
Description
This original figurative painting by Carlo Jean-Jacques portrays two women in a quiet moment of presence and human connection. Rendered in the artist’s recognizable modernist style, the composition emphasizes emotional intimacy through elongated forms, restrained facial features, and subtle tonal contrasts. Soft earth tones, muted blues, and warm neutral hues create a contemplative atmosphere characteristic of Jean-Jacques’s most sought-after figurative works. The simplified composition draws attention to gesture, posture, and psychological presence, reflecting the artist’s deeply human interpretation of Haitian daily life. A major figure associated with the Foyer des Arts Plastiques, Carlo Jean-Jacques remains one of Haiti’s most respected modern painters. His works are admired internationally for their poetic treatment of social reality, expressive linework, and emotional depth. Gérald Alexis famously described his paintings as “the poetry of wretchedness,” recognizing the artist’s ability to transform ordinary moments into powerful visual narratives. This original acrylic on canvas painting is signed by the artist, sold framed, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Myriam Nader Haitian Art Gallery. The work comes from a private collection in Florida, where it will be shipped from.
