Collection: Mario Benjamin (Haitian, 1964)
Mario Benjamin (b. 1964) is a Haitian contemporary artist born in Port-au-Prince. Though self-taught, he developed his practice with strong awareness of international contemporary art movements and museum traditions. He began his career as a photo-realist draftsman before shifting toward abstraction and mixed media. Benjamin incorporates found materials such as wood and fabric into reconstructed canvases, creating dark, layered compositions that contrast sharply with traditional Haitian painting. His work explores identity, individuality, and social constraint through restrained lines and powerful tonal contrasts. Widely exhibited in major international biennales and contemporary art events, Mario Benjamin is considered one of Haiti’s most important living contemporary artists. His works are collected internationally. Explore available works below.
