Collection: Paul Nemours (Haitian, b.1946)

Paul Nemours (b. May 31, 1946) was born in Saint-Marc, Haiti. He began painting while still in secondary school and was encouraged early on by Brother Antoine, a Catholic priest. He later pursued design studies through the A.B.C. School in France, further developing his artistic foundation. Nemours is known for his distinctive style, often referred to as the “Nemours style,” characterized by dark, black backgrounds with dense green vegetation partially concealing animals. His compositions convey strong emotion through bold contrasts and a controlled, atmospheric palette. In 1973, one of his paintings was selected as a record cover for a charitable project supporting a school for handicapped children. In August 1975, he won first prize at the International Festival of Arts held in Colombia, marking his international recognition. His work has been collected by numerous international collectors, and his signature style has influenced many artists. Today, Paul Nemours’ paintings are appreciated for their originality, mood, and distinctive visual language within Haitian art. Explore his available works below.
