Four sleek black panthers with luminous yellow eyes and blue-shadowed faces gaze out from a dense tropical garden in this original Haitian painting by Fritz Philémon, circa 1980. Above them, a rose-toned tree bears an abundant harvest of eggplant, banana, pineapple, peppers, pumpkins and soursop among rhythmic teal leaves. Below, flame-like orange and cream foliage, carpets of heart-shaped leaves and golden autumn-toned plants fill every inch of the canvas, a hallmark of the jewel-toned compositions of Haitian painting. The artist’s signature appears lower center. The work comes from a private collection in Alabama. Condition is good, consistent with its age. We will provide a Certificate of Authenticity.
