Collection: Castera Bazile (Haitian, 1923-1966)

Self-taught artist and one of the most famous Haitian masters, Castera Bazile, started at the Centre d'art in 1944. He painted three of the murals in the Episcopal Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in 1951. By 1955, he successfully took part in several exhibits at the Art Center and overseas- the U.S and Europe. In 1966, Bazile died prematurely at the peak of his career. His art is referred in all major books on Haitian art and mentioned by many art critics internationally. " His paintings are instinctive compositions with warm, harmonious hues and the typical sincerity of Haitian folks expression," says Gerald Alexis in his book "Peintres Haitiens." Get the Book in English Now!  Scroll Down to Make Your Selection!
