Collection: Robert Saint-Brice (Haitian, 1898-1973)

Robert Saint-Brice (1898–1973) was born in Pétion-Ville, Haiti, and became one of the most distinctive spiritual painters of modern Haitian art. Before discovering painting in his fifties, he worked in modest occupations including shopkeeper, cook, and court messenger. His artistic career began after American artist Alex H. John introduced his work to DeWitt Peters at the Centre d’Art in 1949. Saint-Brice quickly gained recognition, with works entering major collections and a solo exhibition in New York by 1960. A practicing Vodou priest, Saint-Brice created semi-abstract figurative paintings inspired by dreams and spiritual visions. Today, his mystical imagery and symbolic compositions remain highly valued by collectors of Haitian art. Scroll down to explore available works.
