Description

This vivid composition by renowned Haitian master André Pierre depicts a ceremonial Vodou scene with richly adorned figures on a boat, including a crowned female presence flanked by attendants and spiritual leaders. The background features stylized vegetation, sacred veves (ritual symbols), and a flowing river, all rendered in Pierre’s characteristic bright palette of greens, blues, reds, and golds. A central homage to the lwa (spirits), the work exemplifies Pierre’s visionary style, blending devotional iconography with imaginative, dreamlike landscapes. The painting is in overall good condition and will be sold unframed from a private collection in Massachussetts, USA, where the artwork will be shipped from. Our gallery will issue a certificate of authenticity upon purchase.

About this artist

Self-taught Haitian master painter Andre Pierre was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1914 and passed away in 2005. He is considered one of Haiti's greatest artists and the pre-eminent painter of the Haitian spirits, the worthy successor of noted Hector Hyppolite. His artworks have been reproduced in many books on naive and religious art. He injects rhythms into his works through lines and colors, says Gerald Alexis in his book Peintres Haitiens. Get the Book "Peintres Haitiens" Now!
