"You read so much about what is bad in Haiti, but I can tell you, there is joy in that place," says Esper. "And there is much beauty." (Sun Sentinel, 2001). In her art, Iris has never left home. Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1959, she's a Haitian Modernist who studied at L'Ecole Beaux-Art in Paris with an art degree in architecture. The artist's distinctive style shows architectural influences of Byzantine and medieval style, intricate geometric patterns, and folk art symbols, these paintings are executed in bold Haitian colors. She also remembers Saint-Soleil. The heretic characters of her paintings, void of narrative content, give off the aspect of an Egyptian bas-relief. She has exhibited widely throughout Haiti, France, and Florida. She has shown recently at the Espace Klee Gallery, Paris France, The United Nations, Art Expo Florida, New York, and The Black Arts Festival in New York.
